Ella Feingold
Ella Feingold is a Grammy winning guitarist, composer, and orchestrator renowned for her deep pocket, harmonic sophistication, and technical innovation. She studied under the legendary Spanky Alford, mastering gospel-infused soul-jazz phrasing before embarking on a career performing/ recording with Queen Latifah, Erykah Badu, Bruno Mars/Silk Sonic,The Roots, and Jay-Z.
Celebrated by peers like Charlie Hunter as “one of the baddest, greasiest guitar players on the planet,” Ella’s playing is defined by her command of rhythm guitar, combining syncopation, complex voicings, and a deep groove informed by funk, gospel, and jazz traditions. She is a pioneer of inverted tuning, inspired by Chris Weisman, which allows for fresh harmonic structures and voicings inaccessible in standard tuning. This unique approach shapes her signature sound—blending lush chord inversions, walking basslines, and expressive melodic phrasing.
Now based in the mountains of Western Massachusetts, Ella continues to perform, teach, orchestrate, and refine her artistry. She is currently collaborating with Charlie Hunter, Erykah Badu, Meshell Ndegeocello and Bootsy Collins and developing a potential Fender signature model optimized for inverted tuning.
SideHustle is thrilled to release Ella’s debut album, Different Strokes For Different Folks. The album is a full-circle moment for Ella, who first saw Charlie Hunter performing with Leon Parker at the Regatta Bar in the late '90s. She never imagined playing and recording with Charlie decades later as a peer and friend. Charlie recently referred to her as “one of the baddest, greasiest guitar players on the planet.” As an exploratory duo project, the two engage in dynamic, improvisational conversations through their instruments, creating an interactive exchange that explores rhythm, space, and sonic textures. Ella plays a Mexican Fender Strat strung “inverted tuning”, ukulele felt pick, 1967 Fender Princeton Reverb and an Ensoniq ASR-10 VCF Filter.
